So, how did I get in to office management? Good question.
My journey to an administrative professional and where I am today is a result of my burning desire to be part of an amazing team that never stops challenging itself. “Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work” – Vince Lombardi.
I have been involved in different aspects of a team throughout my years as a dancer, in school, in the workplace, in volunteer organizations, as a Mom/Wife/Daughter, as a horseman, and as a riding instructor. My father instilled in me the essential qualities to be a contributor on a team no matter what your role is. He taught me to be adaptable and dependable. I can remember him saying the only certain thing in life is change.
Camping during the summer with my father in the Sierra Nevada Mountains are fond memories that connect me to who I am today. So many valuable lessons were learned in a single camping trip. Be prepared, work collaboratively, have discipline, be solution oriented, have a good attitude… and that was just setting up the tent! Seriously, my father set an example of commitment and to live by your core values. He worked tirelessly for the companies he represented, took great pride in teaching others, and carried these qualities to our family life. As a teacher he encouraged team communication to speak truthfully and respectfully, address issues at first opportunity, and keep teammates informed at all times. Commitment to excellence shown through on every accomplishment he made. It certainly made an impression on how hard I push myself to this day. I try to make every day count. Improvement within me improves the team. I am certainly not the type of person to settle. My husband and daughter would agree.
Throughout my career and advanced studies a focus in office management became something I feel naturally good at and enjoy. I take pride in allowing my teammates to function efficiently due to my contribution.
We can always accomplish more together than we can ever on our own. It’s all about the amazing team that brought me to SH Architecture.
