AccompliSH was the word we choose when we ordered the shirts for our Habitat for Humanity home build.
I think, we did accomplish what we set out to do. Not just helping this great organization by creating the plans for the buildings, but to get involved, get down and dirty, giving our time and sweat to build them.
I am so proud of all of SH Architecture employees to get together for a fun day on-site and help frame the last set of houses on the Merze-Ward lots. Looking through all the pictures that we took, all the work we did, it was well worth it.
I have decided to see through this development from the beginning, so I have been out every week volunteering my time to help on-site and follow the progress. Through my time on the houses, I have met volunteers from different companies who wanted to help these families, who cannot afford to have roof above their head. I have learned a lot about the construction of wood framed homes, the process of bringing in different trades, dealing with the permits and inspections. Throughout my experience, I feel I grew in my profession and met a lot of incredible and inspiring people.
On March 9th of this year we were invited to the dedication of the last home at this location, before we move to the next set of homes, that are currently under the permitting process. I have to say, I get emotional every time, when all the people that are involved in the process, from the Youth Build kids to the Habitat for Humanity employees are at the dedication and presenting the home for the families. There is something about this generous gift that brings people together to help each other. I am proud and blessed to be involved in this process.
