The two story plan, arranged around a central outdoor courtyard learning area, uses less land than conventional 1 story facilities with additional value added classroom area. The two story plan also facilitates grade separation and passive security opportunities. The use of color is important in the design to provide a more “kid friendly” environment and an individual identity for the school. The facility is also designed to meet the CCSD 30,000 BTU/sf/yr energy budget.
